KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team welcomes Oakland and Valparaiso to West Hills Athletic Club this weekend, hosting the Golden Grizzlies on Saturday at 10 a.m. and the Beacons on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The matches are free to the public but spectators must wear masks. Live results will be available at

LAST WEEK
The Broncos (3-2) went on the road to Cleveland State for a double-header against the Vikings and St. Bonaventure. WMU opened Saturday with a 5-2 loss to CSU but rebounded for a 7-0 win over the Bonnies. In the win, the Broncos did not lose a single set.
HOME IS WHERE THE WINS ARE
Western Michigan went 9-3 at home last season and is off to a 2-0 start this season. Over the past three seasons, including the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season, the Broncos are 23-8 at Sorensen Courts/West Hills Athletic Club.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Saturday's match will be Oakland's second dual match of the season. The Golden Grizzlies opened the Winter/Spring season with a 7-0 loss at Michigan.
OU competed in four fall tournaments at the EMU Hidden Duals, the Bethany Moore Invitational at Ball State, the Eagles Invitational and the Betsy Kuehl Invitational at WMU.
SCOUTING THE BEACONS
Valparaiso enters Sunday with a 4-1 record in dual matches, which includes wins from the fall in against Holy Cross (Ind.) and Grand Valley State. Since January the Beacons have gone 2-1 in dual matches with a 5-2 win over IUPUI and a 4-3 win over St. Louis. The lone loss came against Southern Illinois University, 5-3.
Olivia Czerwonka and Amanda Tabanera both have 4-1 records in dual matches this season, with Czerwonka going 3-1 at No. 1 and 1-0 at No. 2. Czerwonka also has a 13-3 overall record this season. The doubles team of Czerwonka and her sister Claire is 5-0 in dual matches at No. 1 this season.
ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan hosts Arizona for the first time in program history for the second-ever meeting between the two teams on Thursday, Feb., 10 at 12 p.m. The Broncos then head to Indiana University on Saturday to play the Hoosiers at 10 a.m. and Bellaramine at 2 p.m.
