KENT, Ohio – The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up the opening day of competition at the 2022 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships at Kent State University on Friday night.
WMU earned four points on the day, all coming from senior thrower Taylor Eaton. Eaton took fifth place in the weight throw after tossing a distance of 59' 1" (18.02m), finishing just three inches out of fourth place. This was the second time that Eaton has scored at the Indoor MAC Championships in her career.
The Broncos also advanced athletes into the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash and mile run. In the hurdles it was sophomore Grace Johnson moving on after taking fifth in qualifying with a time of 8.63 seconds.
Freshman sprinter Azariah McGee-Grantham ran the third-fastest time in program history to finish second overall in the 60-meter dash qualifying with a time of 7.53 seconds. She later went on to qualify for the 200-meter dash after claiming the last qualifying spot with a time of 24.95 seconds. Annalise James finished in ninth place in the mile run preliminaries, nearly breaking 5-minutes to advance to Saturday's finals with a time of 5:00.86.
Western Michigan is back at it for the final day of competition on Saturday, starting at 12 p.m.
