KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team returns to action this weekend hosting Butler on Saturday at 1 p.m. and welcoming Milwaukee on Sunday at 11 a.m. at West Hills Athletic Club.
Admission is free and spectators must wear masks to attend. Live scoring will also be provided at www.wmu.statbroadcast.com.
The Broncos went 1-2 last week with a close 4-3 loss at home to Arizona, a 5-0 loss at Indiana and a 4-0 win against Bellarmine at IU. WMU enters the weekend with a dual match record of 4-4 overall and are 2-1 at home.
SCOUTING BUTLER
The Broncos had a double-header scheduled with Butler last season but the matches were canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Bulldog program. WMU is 9-1 all-time against Butler, with the last meeting coming Feb. 1, 2000 in Indianapolis. The Broncos took that match 7-0.
The Bulldogs are 1-6 on the season with its lone win coming against Milwaukee, 6-1, back on Feb. 5. Butler has managed to take a point in every dual match this season, so far avoiding being swept in all seven matches. Most recently the Bulldogs fell to Indianapolis University, 5-1.
SCOUTING MILWAUKEE
The Panthers are 2-4 in dual matches this season and travel to Wayne State on Saturday before taking on the Broncos on Sunday. This will only be the second meeting between the two schools, with WMU winning the first match back on Feb. 20, 2015, 6-1.
The Panthers most recently dropped their last two matches, falling to Eastern Michigan and Marquette by a score of 4-3. Mayya Perova leads the team with a 5-1 record in dual play, going 1-0 at No. 1 and 4-1 at No. 2. The duo of Greta Carbone and Iva Stejskalova is 6-0 so far this season, with all six wins coming at No. 1.
ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan is back at home next Friday at 1 p.m. to host Valparaiso.
