BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team split its double-header at Indiana University on Saturday, falling to the Hoosiers 5-0 before defeating Bellarmine 4-0.
In the morning match the Hoosiers took an early 1-0 lead by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. In singles action IU pushed its lead to 2-0 with a win at No. 2 by Lara Schneider over Ana Guadiana 6-2, 6-0. Wins at No. 1 and No. 5 secured the match victory for Indiana, with the lead extending to 5-0 with a win at No. 4. Matches at No. 3 and No. 5 went unfinished.
Against the Knights the Broncos started with a 1-0 lead in doubles due to Bellarmine being unable to field a third team. Guadiana and Kiana Rizzolo then secured the point with a 6-4 win at No. 1. The Knights were also unable to field six singles matches, with Maya Perkucin winning by forfeit at No. 6, making it 2-0. Elizabeth Trupp won at No. 4 6-2, 6-2, with Kristina Tiraspolsky securing the match victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5. Matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 went unfinished.
Western Michigan returns home to host Butler on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Milwaukee on Sunday at 11 a.m.
