KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's basketball team travels to Colorado for games against Colorado on Wednesday at 8 p.m. and Colorado State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
OPENING TIP:
• WMU is coming off of two wins at home against Youngstown State (62-54) and Grace Christian University (102-41).
• Lauren Ross leads the scoring for the Broncos with an average of 18.8 points per game, with her highest scoring game being against Michigan (27 points). She also leads the team in three pointers (33) and steals (10).
• Taylor Williams has registered a double-double in each of her last two games, and also leads the team in rebounds with 8.8 per game.
DEFENSE WINS
In Western Michigan's two wins this season it has held its opponents under 30 percent shooting from the floor. In the win over Youngstown, the Broncos held the Penguins to just a 29.1 field goal percentage. In the win over Grace Christian, WMU held the Tigers to 29.4 percent from the field.
BATTLING THE BUFFALOES
The Colorado women's basketball team is 5-2 on the season so far, with their latest victory being against Chicago State with a final score of 83-32 this past Sunday. The Buffaloes are led in both scoring and rebounding by senior Quay Miller, with an average of 14.6 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. Close behind her are Frida Formann and Jaylyn Sherrod with 11.5 and 10 points per game respectively.
Western Michigan and Colorado have only met once, back in 1999 at the Coors Classic. The Buffaloes came away with a 79-62 win.
READYING AGAINST THE RAMS
Colorado State has started the season with a 4-2 record, with their latest game being a narrow loss to Auburn 73-74. They take on the Northern Colorado Bears before their matchup with Western Michigan. The Rams lead scorers include McKenna Hofschild with 16.7 points per game, Destiny Thurman with 12.2 points per game, and Cailyn Crocker matching Thurman with 12.2 points per game. Cali Clark leads in rebounds with 5.3 per game.
WMU is 2-0 all-time against CSU but this is the first trip to Fort Collins. The last meeting came in Green Bay, Wis., at the Phoenix Classic back in 1989, with the Broncos winning 80-74.
ON THE HORIZON
WMU heads back on the road next week, with a quick trip to Valparaiso to take on the Beacons on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. The Broncos then return home to host Indiana Stat eon Saturday, Dec. 10 at 12 p.m.
