FIRST AND FIVE

BATTLE FOR THE CANNON
Although the Western Michigan/Central Michigan football rivalry first began back in 1907, the Battle for the Cannon trophy did not start until 2008. WMU has held The Victory Cannon eight times and the Chippewas have held it six.

The Victory Cannon is a callback to both WMU and CMU's ROTC programs that shoot off a cannon when the teams score.

FINDING THE ENDZONE
True-freshman quarterback Treyson Bourguet found the endzone twice in WMU's close loss to Northern Illinois last week. Bourguet ran it in from 16 yards out to give the Broncos an early 7-3 lead on his first career rushing touchdown. He later connected with sophomore wide receiver Anthony Sambucci from 26-yards. This was the first game the Broncos had scored more than two touchdowns since the loss to Eastern Michigan on Oct. 8.

FAMILY RIVALRY
Western Michigan redshirt freshman linebacker James DeWald will suit up against his brother, Central Michigan redshirt freshman offensive linemen Caden DeWald on Wednesday. James is currently a member of the WMU scout team and was named the Scout Team Player of the Week .

Starting right tackle Jack Sherwin's parents, Wendy and Greg, are both former Central Michigan student-athletes. Greg was a star offensive lineman in the early 90's and went on to play for the New York Jets. Wendy was a member of the women's basketball team in the early 90's, as well.

ON THE VERGE
Junior wide receiver Corey Crooms needs just 43 more yards to match his career high for receiving yards in a season at 768. Crooms set the new career-best mark during a breakout sophomore season that saw him catch 44 balls and six touchdowns. Crooms, who has had 100+ yards receiving in each of the last two games, has already set a new personal-best mark in receptions with 50. He also needs just one more touchdown to match last year's career-best.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to next Friday's season finale against Toledo, WMU will honor its senior class of Trae Allen, Zaire Barnes, Bryce Bouwens, Josh Burgett, Warren Dabney, Dylan Deatherage, Braden Fisk, Bricen Garner, Hozey Haji-Badri, Austin Hence, Dorian Jackson, Thiago Kapps, Nick Mihalic, Kevin Meckert, Corvin Moment, Harrison Taylor, Sean Tyler and Delano Ware
