KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's soccer team heads east to Detroit Mercy (1-4-4) on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
ON FIRE
The Broncos (8-1, 3-0 MAC) competed against Bowling Green State University and Chicago State University last week. WMU started the week with a 1-0 win against BGSU on the road. Scoreless at halftime, Western Michigan's lone goal came from senior midfielder,
Eric Conerty in the 66th minute. Conerty's goal in the BGSU match along with his goal and assist in the prior matchup against Northern Illinois University, named him to the CollegeSoccerNews and TopDrawerSoccer Men's National Team of the Week.
WMU then clinched a program record with its eighth consecutive victory, a 7-1 win over CSU. Senior forward
Charlie Sharp tied a program record after scoring four goals, while
Mike Melaragni tallied two and
Dylan Sing added one. Western Michigan displayed their vast talent with assists coming from six Bronco players.
Charlie Sharp's four goals against the Cougars combined with his help controlling possession in the 1-0 win at Bowling Green earned him Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Western Michigan is currently sitting on top of the MAC with nine points, outscoring its opponents 24-4. With an average of 14.7 shots per game, the Broncos are outshooting their opponents by 7.5 per game with 0.439 percent of those shots on goal.
SCOUTING THE TITANS
Detroit Mercy prepares to host WMU following its matches against Green Bay and Oakland University last week. The Titans' match against Green Bay on Wednesday, Sept. 28, ended in a 1-1 draw after Guershom Sylvain connected on a header for the equalizer in the last 10 seconds of the game. UDM then traveled to arch-rival Oakland University on Saturday, Oct. 1, where the Titans fell short against the Golden Grizzles, 1-0. Oakland was able to get on the board early with a goal in the first minute of the match and held the Titans the rest of the way. UDM is led by Samory Powder in goals with six, followed by Rocco Galati with four, Saeid Jannoun and Guershom Sylvain with three. Detroit Mercy currently stands 1-4-4, 0-1-3 in the Horizon League.

The Broncos head west for a rematch with Northern Illinois (3-4-3, 0-2 MAC) on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 4:30 p.m. (CDT).
