EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up its first tournament of the fall season, the three-day Spartan Invitational on Sunday.
FRIDAY RECAP
In a very challenging field, it was senior
Kaitlyn Rogosch that claimed WMU's lone victory on the day. She defeated MSU's Dagmar Zdrubecka 6-3, 6-3 in the Izzo Flight. Junior transfer
Valeriya Monko pushed the Spartan's Tia Mukherjee to three sets, falling 7-5, 2-6, 5-7. In the Green Flight junior
Maya Perkucin pushed Notre Dame's Rylie Hanford to three sets before falling 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-7 (3).
SATURDAY RECAP
Both Hamilton and
Lindsey Zieglar picked up wins in the Green Flight in singles play. Hamilton defeated Cleveland State's Bethany Yauch 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, while Zieglar beat CSU's Oihane Vicario 6-3, 6-2. The two also picked up Western Michigan's first doubles win of the weekend, beating Yauch and Vicario 6-1.
Perkucin and freshman
Audrey Smitek also picked up wins. Perkucin defeated Oakland's Yasmin Glazbrook 6-4, 6-3, while Smitek picked up her first career singles win after beating OU's Nirva Patel in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
SUNDAY RECAP
On the final day of competition Rogosch, Perkucin and Smitek all picked up wins in singles play. Rogosch earned win over Cleveland State's Selma Tounsie 6-3, 6-4. Perkucin's second win on the weekend came against Chicago State's Kristina Pukahaheva, while Smitek defeated CSU's Sofya Sedovich after her Sedovich withdrew.
Next up for the Broncos is the ITA Midwest Regionals at the University of Michigan Oct. 20-24.
