Broncos Fall at No. 13/12 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The 17th-ranked Western Michigan hockey team had its four-game winning streak snapped, falling 2-0 at No. 13/12 Notre Dame on Friday night at Compton Family Ice Arena.

Cameron Rowe made a season-high 30 saves for the Broncos (4-2-0) but was out-dueled by UND's Ryan Bischel, who made 30 for his first shutout of the season. Both teams were unable to convert on the power play with WMU going 0-for-4 and the Fighting Irish going 0-for-3.

After a scoreless first period the Fighting Irish struck first at 12:23 in the second period. Senior captain Nick Lievermann scored on a shot through traffic from the left point, with Trevor Janicke and Chayse Primeau picking up assists on the goal.

Justin Janicke added to Notre Dame's lead, scoring with 1:47 left in the second. Primeau had a shot saved by Rowe but the rebound bounced off the cross bar and back out into the crease for Janicke to put in the net, making it 2-0.

WMU had its chances in the second period with three back-door passes missing the mark on open nets. Max Sasson and Tim Washe had a team-high four shots on goal on the night.

The two teams battle it out again on Saturday night at 6 p.m., this time at Lawson Ice Arena.
