KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The 18th-ranked Western Michigan hockey team picked up its third straight win after taking down Bowling Green, 4-1, at Lawson Ice Arena on Thursday night.
 
The Broncos (3-1-0) picked up goals from Ethan Wolthers, Cole Gallant, Max Sasson and Ryan McAllister on the night. Sasson also had two assists for a three-point game, while Galant, Wolthers also had assists for multi-point nights. Cameron Rowe got the start in net and made 22 saves on, including 15 in the second period, to earn his second win of the season.
 
Wolthers got the Broncos on the board early with a delayed penalty goal in the first period at 7:10. WMU got the extra attacker on during play and Wolthers took a pass from Sasson and scored on the wraparound attempt for his second of the season. Sasson tallied his second assist of the season, as did Gallant as Western Michigan took a 1-0 lead.
 
Gallant scored just 1:02 into the second period. Walthers found him at the far post and the fifth-year senior banged it in for his first goal of the season. Luke Grainer also tallied an assist on the goal, his third of the season.
 
The Falcons struck back just 61 seconds later on a goal by Austin Swankler. Brayden Krieger went for the wraparound attempt but had his stick checked by a Bronco and the puck went through the crease to Swankler at the back post, cutting WMU's lead to 2-1.
 
The Broncos took their one-goal lead into the third period and Sasson pushed the lead to 3-1 with 7:30 left to play. Zak Galambos broke up a chance by the Falcons and pushed the puck off to Sasson. Sasson and McAllister played the give-and-go, with the freshman forward feeding Sasson in the slot for the goal. The assist was McAllister third of the season, with Galambos tallying his first.
 
Just 2:02 later Sasson returned the favor, with McAllister scoring on a five-hole snipe from the left circle. Sasson tallied his third point of the night and third assist of the season, while Aidan Fulp picked up an assist on the goal.
 
WMU outshot BGSU 33-23 on the night, including an 11-1 advantage in the first period. The Bronco penalty kill went a perfect 5-for-5.
 
The two teams meet again on Friday night at 7 p.m. at Bowling Green.
