Men’s Soccer Hosts No. 20 Akron

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's soccer team hosts the University of Akron (7-2-3, 2-0-1 MAC) on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex.

THE BRONCOS
The Broncos extended its program-record winning streak to nine games after a 4-0 win over Detroit Mercy on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Charlie Sharp wasted no time picking up where he left off against Chicago State, scoring two goals. Daniel Nimick and Dylan Sing each recorded one. Jordan Walker was able to hop on the goal train, earning his first career goal in the 79th minute. Western Michigan's matchup against Northern Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 9 resulted in a 0-0 draw. WMU outshot NIU 17-3 overall, with a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal. 
 
Western Michigan (9-1-1, 3-0-1 MAC) is currently ranked fifth in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA DI North Region Poll and 29th in the College Soccer News Men's Top 30 National Poll. Sitting atop the Mid-American Conference, Broncos are outshooting its opponents 170-74 with 78-29 on goal, earning a total shot-on-goal percentage of 0.459. WMU has tallied 28 goals this season, led by Sharp (8), Sing (5), Mike Melaragni (3), Nimick (3), and Eric Conerty (2). Goalkeeper Hunter Morse adds to the Bronco's impressive season thus far, recording four goals against, 24 saves, and eight total shutouts, ranking him first in NCAA DI for shutouts.
 
SCOUTING THE ZIPS
The Zips match against Bowling Green State University on Thursday, Oct. 6 ended in a 1-1 draw when Dyson Clapier connected an early goal in the 10th minute. Akron maintained the lead until the equalizer was scored in the 71st minute. Akron then traveled to Chicago State University on Sunday, Oct. 9, where the Zips dominated the Cougars, 8-0 with eight different players scoring and nine different players assisting.
 
Akron is currently ranked 20th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA DI National Rankings, 3rd in the USC North Region, and 22nd in the College Soccer News Men's Top 30 National Poll. The Zips are outshooting its opponents 155-118 with 79-155 on goal, earning a total shot-on-goal percentage of 0.510. Akron has tallied 35 goals this season, led by Dyson Clapier (6), Jason Shokalook (5), Ryan Kingsford (4), Ashton Kamdem, and Stefan Dobrijevic (3).  
 
ON THE HORIZON 
Western Michigan heads on the road next week, traveling to Oakland University on Tuesday, Oct. 18 for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The match will be streamed on ESPN+. WMU then celebrates its Senior Day, hosting Wright State University on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. Sunday's match will be streamed on Bronco All-Access.
