Broncos Earn Road Shutout Win at Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team snapped its five-game losing streak with a 1-0 win at Eastern Michigan on Thursday.

The lone goal came from senior midfielder Claudia Schilling in the 72nd minute. Schilling banged in the goal during a scramble for the ball after a WMU corner kick for her first goal of the season.

The Bronco defense locked down the Eagles after that to secure the shutout.

"Today was a really good team win," said head coach Sammy Boateng. "Eastern is a very good team and their goalkeeper had a great game. We controlled the game from the start until the end and created a lot of opportunities in the buildup through our center backs and center midfielders. Our front four did a tremendous job combining and also displaying individual creativity."

Western Michigan outshot Eastern Michigan 26-10 overall and 14-2 on goal. Senior goalkeeper Maggie Rogers made two saves for her second shutout of the season. Senior forward Morgan Otteson led all players with four shots on goal.

"Today was a complete team effort and I'm really happy and proud of the group," Boateng added. "They earned a road victory in our conference and that's a hard thing to do."

Western Michigan returns home to host Central Michigan on Sunday at 2 p.m.
