KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Senior defensive lineman
Ali Fayad has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Fayad was an integral part of the Bronco defense that allowed just 119 yards of total offense in a 23-3 victory over visiting San Jose State on Saturday. Fayad finished with two sacks, three tackles for a loss, five total tackles, and three QB hurries. He also forced a fumble that led to a WMU score in the second quarter.
As a team, the Broncos finished with eight sacks, the most since Oct. 1, 2016 in a 49-10 win over Central Michigan.
Western Michigan begins Mid-American Conference play on Saturday, as it travels to Buffalo for a noon kickoff against the Bulls on CBS Sports Network.
