Women's Tennis Wraps Up Hoosier Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- After turning in 10 total wins on the opening day of the Hoosier Classic on Friday, the Western Michigan women's tennis team finished off Saturday and Sunday with more quality results.

In singles play on Saturday Ana Guadiana, Karin Hamilton, Kaitlyn Rogosch, Maya Perkucin and Elizabeth Trupp all picked up wins during the opening round. Gaudiana won 2-0 (6-4, 6-4) over Elizabeth Ferdman from Marquette, while Hamilton defeated Tiana Windbuchler from MU 2-1 (0-6, 6-1, 10-2). Rogosh won 2-0 (6-4, 6-0) against Marquette's Elisabeth Desmarais, while Perkucin bested Fernanda Naves of Northern Illinois 2-0 (6-1, 6-3). Trupp finished off the first round with a close 2-0 (6-4, 7-5 [5]) win over Gabriella Kaminski from NIU. Hamilton, Rogosch and Perkucin also earned singles wins during the second session.

In Sunday's doubles action the Broncos picked up four more wins. Lindsey Zieglar and Rogosch earned a tight 8-7 (7-2) win over Schneider and Mejic from Indiana. Kristina Tiraspolsky and Guadiana defeated Schmidt and Mauro from Middle Tennessee State 8-4. Later on in the day Perkucin and Hamilton took down Hernandez and Hu from IU 8-4, while Zieglar and Rogosch picked up another win, this time ofer Alexis and Mauro from MTSU 8-1.

"Overall we had a good weekend," said head coach Ryan Tomlinson. "We had a winning record in both doubles and singles. Kaitlyn Rogosch picked up where she left off last season and went 7-0 this weekend. Perkucin and Hamilton were also 3-0 in singles play. We have some things to tighten up and a quick turnaround as we play next Friday again. We will look to build off this strong start.

The Broncos are back in action next weekend at the Wolverine Invitational.
