KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's soccer team battled Sacramento State to a 1-1 tie at the WU Soccer Complex on Friday evening.
The stats were pretty even across the board. The Broncos (2-3-3) outshot the Hornets 10-11 with shots on goal tied at six.
WMU scored very early in the game off of a free kick near the left corner in the fourth minute. Daniel Nimick played the ball into the box and graduate transfer Philip Smith redirected it into the net for his first career goal as a Bronco.
Michael Gonzalez tied the game up at 1-1 in the 38th minute after dribbling through traffic and finishing into the right corner of the net.
WMU picked up the attack in the second half, firing off seven shots and landing four on frame but were unable to find the net.
Sacramento State had one shot on goal in each of the overtime period, with the Broncos being held to zero.
Western Michigan is back in action next Tuesday at St. Thomas at 2 p.m.
