Broncos and Tommies Battle to 1-1 Tie

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Western Michigan men's soccer team battled St. Thomas to a 1-1 tie on the road at the South Field Soccer Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

The Broncos had a steep advantage in shots and shots on goal in the game over the Tommies. WMU rattled off 35 total shots, landing 22 on goal, while UST had 16 total shots and 10 on goal. Redshirt junior goalie Isaac Walker made a season-high nine saves in the draw.

The Tommies took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 35th minute on a goal by Charlie Holton. A ball was played into the box toward the back right post  and Max Hand headed it toward the left post, where Holton knocked it into the net for his first goal of the season.

The Broncos tied it up early in the second half in the 63rd minute on Max Keenan's third goal of the season. Keenan had the ball on the right side toward the boundary, dribbled into the top-right corner of the box and fired it into the net.

WMU had a handfull of chanes in the overtime period but were unable to find the back of the net.

Western Michigan returns home to open Mid-American Conference play against Northern Illinois on Saturday at 12 p.m. Prior to the start of the match the Broncos will honor their senior class.
