Mairead Boyle was named the division's Defensive Player of the Week, setter
Logan Case earned the Setter of the Week and outside hitter
Maggie King claimed the Offensive Player of the Week.
Boyle totaled 36 digs (4.50/set) and successfully received 52-of-56 opponent serves for Western in its two matches over the weekend at the Bulldog Brawl in Indianapolis. On Friday against Milwaukee, the sophomore topped the Broncos with 20 digs, her third straight match with 20 or more. The following evening, Boyle tallied 16 more digs as WMU knocked off Butler in straight sets.
Case collected her second Setter of the Week award of the season, totaling 96 assists (12.00/set) for Western Michigan this past weekend. The sophomore dished out 60 helpers against Milwaukee, the second-highest total of her collegiate career, then followed that up with 36 more the next day against Butler. Her 36 assists against the Bulldogs helped Western hit a season-best .349 in the 3-0 victory. Case also totaled double-digit digs in both contests to bring her season double-double total to a team-high six.
King led WMU in kills in both of its weekend matches, totaling 17 against Milwaukee and then a match-high 16 against Butler. The junior hit a season-best .419 in the win over the Bulldogs, helping the Broncos to a .349 team hitting percentage, their best of the season. King also collected 16 digs (2.00/set) over the weekend, and came one dig shy of a double-double against Butler.
WMU (7-4) begins Mid-American Conference play on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 23-24, with a trip to Ypsilanti, Mich., to take on Eastern Michigan (5-6). First serve for Thursday's series opener is set for 6 pm.
