KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan baseball head coach
Billy Gernon has announced the addition of Jordan Keur to his coaching staff. An All-Big Ten player at Michigan State and one of the rising stars in collegiate coaching, Keur will serve as assistant coach and co-recruiting coordinator.
"I had the privilege of coaching many special players in my two years at Michigan State and Jordan Keur is no exception," Gernon said. "Jordan has tremendous leadership skills and has remained a genuine and enthusiastic person with a great work ethic."
He will work specifically with Bronco outfielders, as well as base running and assist with all aspects of the offense. Keur joins WMU following three years as the head coach at Lansing Community College and four seasons as an assistant coach at Michigan State.
"Jordan will enhance our player development and relationships," Gernon added. "His experience as an assistant coach for several years at the Division I level, plus his time as a head coach will be instrumental for our program. The coaching profession is so unique in the fact I had the fortune of coaching an outstanding young man like Jordan and now I get to coach side-by-side with him, as well."
Keur was the head coach at Lansing Community College from 2019-21, most recently leading the Stars to a 47-3 record and berth in the NJCAA Region XII Baseball Championship Series after finishing the season ranked No. 1 in the nation. His first LCC squad in 2019 went 36-9 and ranked seventh nationally among NJCAA Division II teams. His teams that played full seasons in 2019 and 2021 own the top two winning percentages in school history.
Keur was voted conference coach of the year in both 2019 and 2021, while also collecting regional coach of the year honors in 2021.
Prior to his time at LCC, he spent four seasons at Michigan State where he helped the Spartans set a school record for stolen bases in 2018 (100), a mark which led the Big Ten and ranked 10th nationally. Keur spent one season as an assistant at Eastern Michigan before moving to Michigan State.
As a player, Keur started 150 games for Michigan State and was a .315 career hitter. He was an All-Big Ten honoree as a junior as he led MSU to an NCAA Regional berth while leading the team in batting (.353), hits (89) and multi-hit games (31).
Keur graduated from Michigan State with a degree in advertising and played professionally for the Washington Wild Things in the independent Frontier League.
