KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team and head coach
Andy Murray have announced the 2021-22 non-conference schedule.
The Broncos open the season with the Brown & Gold Game on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Lawson Ice Arena. The regular season begins the following week with a home-and-home series against rival Ferris State. WMU hosts the Bulldogs on Friday at 7:05 p.m. before traveling up to Big Rapids the following day for a 7:07 p.m. puck drop.
WMU also has a home-and-home series set with the University of Michigan on Oct. 22-23 with the Broncos traveling to Ann Arbor on the Friday before hosting the Wolverines on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
Western Michigan leaves the state for the first time of the season for a trip to take on Colgate on Oct. 29-30. WMU travels out to New York to take on the Raiders as a return trip for a series in Kalamazoo back in 2017. Western Michigan returns to the state to take on St. Lawrence on Nov. 26-27. The Saints are under the guidance of WMU Hockey alum Brent Brekke, who led SLU to an ECAC Tournament Championship last season in his second year at the helm.
Western Michigan will also return to the Great Lakes Invitational during the holiday break of 2021. WMU last competed in the GLI back in 2016, winning the tournament after defeating Michigan State and Michigan Tech. Times and dates for the GLI are still to be determined.
The Broncos had to rearrange its non-conference schedule after a series set to be played at Lawson Ice Arena against Alabama-Huntsville was canceled due to UAH suspending operations of its program.
