OXFORD, Ohio – The Western Michigan track and field team claimed a pair of top-five finishes to wrap up day one of the 2021 Outdoor Mid-American Conference Championships at Miami University's George L. Rider Track on Friday.
Senior
Brittney Hall took fourth place in the 10,000-meter run to earn five points on the day for the Broncos. Hall ran a time of 35:59.52 to score for her first career time at the Outdoor MAC Championships.
Senior
Aniya Davis took fifth place in the hammer throw to score four points in the event. Davis crushed her previous personal-best distance by tossing 190' 1" (57.94m) to also score for the first time in her career at the outdoor championship.
Taylor Eaton just missed out on scoring in the event after taking ninth place with a personal-best distance of 171' 4" (52.24m).
Advancing to finals on Saturday are seniors
Rebecca McNamee and
Juliane Sormain. McNamee finished fifth in her heat of the 1,500-meter run to take one of the 12 qualifying spots for tomorrow's finals at 2:15 p.m. McNamee finished with a time of 4:35.54. Sormain finished third in her heat of the 800-meter run to qualify after running a time of 2:11.69. Saturday's finals in the 800 take place at 3:50 p.m.
WMU will also have athletes in the finals of the 5,000-meter run, discus and shot put. Hall is set to compete in the 5,000, while Davis, Eaton and
Madison Ochs will compete in the discus. Ochs will also represent the Broncos in the shot put. Western Michigan will also run the team of
Kennedy Campeau,
Trinity Bracey,
Grace Johnson and
Sarinity Bracey in the 4x100-meter relay. Sormain, McNamee and the Bracey twins will also compete in the 4x400-meter relay.
