KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team and head coach Clayton Bate announced the addition of Eastern Illinois transfer Mack Smith on Thursday.
Smith joins the Broncos after spending the last four seasons at Eastern Illinois University. Smith appeared in 107 games, making 100 starts for the Panthers. For his career Mack has 1,339 points, averaging 12.5 per game. During his senior campaign Smith set the NCAA record for most consecutive games with a made three-pointer (91).
"We are thrilled to welcome Mack to Western Michigan University and our basketball program," said Bates. "Mack will provide perimeter scoring and veteran leadership to our team. He has played over 100 games at the Division I level and is a talented offensive player."

This past season at EIU the 6-2 guard averaged 10.7 points per game with nine double figure scoring games. In the 2020-21 campaign Smith shot 39.8 percent from the field and 35 percent from behind the three-point line. Smith also averaged 3.3 rebounds per game en route to being named All-OVC Second Team.
Smith's breakout season came in 2018 when the Indianapolis, Ind., native played and started in all 32 games for EIU, averaging 12.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. In his sophomore season Smith shot 39.7 percent from the field and knocked down a staggering 81 three-pointers. For his performance Smith was named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team.
For his career Smith ranks third at EIU in career three-pointers made with 256 and is 16
th on EIU's career scoring list. Smith's 256 career three-pointers is also ninth most in a career in Ohio Valley Conference history. He ends his career with the Panthers having shot 36.6 percent form long distance.
Smith had a stellar prep career at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis. In his senior season Smith led the Warriors to a 21-3 record, their first No.1 ranking in Class 4A in 16 years and first outright MIC conference title in school history. Smith averaged 19.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game during his senior campaign en route to being named an Indiana All-Star.
