Women's Tennis Announces Team Awards

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team and head coach Ryan Tomlinson have handed out its team awards after the conclusion of the 2020-21 season.
 
WMU finished up the season with a 15-7 record overall and a 7-7 record in Mid-American Conference play.  During the season the Broncos earned five MAC Weekly Awards.
 
Sophomore Lindsey Zieglar was voted by her teammates as the Amy Yeast Most Valuable Player. Zieglar went 17-4 overall on the season in singles play. The Daytona Beach Fla., native was 7-1 at No. 1, 9-2 at No. 2 and 1-1 at No. 3. She also finished MAC play with a 10-4 record and earned MAC Singles Player of the Week three times on the season. In doubles play she was 13-5 on the season, including 6-4 in conference.
 
"I couldn't think of a more deserving player for this award," said Tomlinson. "Lindsey led us in overall wins, singles wins and doubles wins. This was her first full season as a Bronco and what an impact she had. The kid is hungry to win and her season proved that."
 
Junior Elizabeth Trupp was voted the Unsung Hero by her teammates. Trupp saw action in three matches on the season, going 1-2 in doubles play.
 
"Liz is one of our captains and a great pick for this award," Tomlinson added. "She was a great leader on and off the court for us this year. She is always willing to go the extra mile for her teammates and the coaching staff."
 
Junior Kailtyn Rogosch was received the Besty Kuhle Coaches Award, decided by WMU's staff. Rogosch competed in 21 going 12-9 in singles play and 10-4 in doubles play. Rogosch was named MAC Doubles Team of the Week along with her partner Ana Guadiana back on April 1 after WMU beat Buffalo and Northern Illinois.
 
"Kaitlyn is a coach's dream," said Tomlinson. "She shows up and puts in the work and leads by example every single day. She is a tremendous competitor and a wonderful teammate. "
