KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan offensive lineman
Jaylon Moore became the second Bronco taken in the 2021 NFL Draft on Saturday, May 1, when he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (155th overall).
Â
Moore played in 36 games over his WMU career, including all six games last fall. In 2020, he helped block for a WMU offense that ranked fourth in the MAC in yards per game (479.7). In the last full season, 2019, the Broncos finished in the top-three in the league in yards per game (445.7), while in 2018 the Bronco offensive line was second in the league with just 1.54 sacks per game allowed. Pro Football Focus gave Moore a 77.5 overall offensive rating in 2020, including a 75.8 run-block rating and 73.8 pass-block rating. He allowed just six total pressures (three sacks, two hits and one hurry) while committing only three penalties on the year.
Â
Moore becomes the 53rd Western Michigan player taken in the NFL or AFL drafts and the 10th Bronco taken since 2016. After the selection of
D'Wayne Eskridge in Friday's second round, Western Michigan has had multiple players taken in the NFL Draft in four of the past six seasons.
Moore is the 17th offensive lineman taken from WMU and the first since Chukwuma Okorafor went to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the draft in 2018. Moore is the second Bronco taken by San Francisco, joining guard Pat Emerick who was a sixth-round pick (77th overall) in 1963.
