BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Western Michigan tennis team improved to 6-0 in Mid-American Conference play after a 5-2 win at Buffalo on Friday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center.
The 41st-ranked Broncos started off strong, earning the doubles point after a pair of 6-3 wins by the duos of
Zac Faveri and
Jannik Opitz and
Fynn Lohse and
Jack Randall.
Junior
Peter Kuszynski defeated Vlademar Holm 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 to push WMU's lead to 2-0. UB's Simon WIbler cut the lead to 2-1 after a win at No. 4 over Jackson Boon 6-4, 6-3, but freshman
Benjamin George brought the Broncos one point from victory after winning at No. 6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 at No. 6. The win was sealed by
Arjun Honnappa after he beat Finn Macnamara, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5. Opitz wrapped up WMU's victories by beating Bjoern Peterson in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Western Michigan returns back to Kalamazoo for three matches in three days next weekend. The Broncos host Ball State on Friday at 2 p.m., Omaha on Saturday at 12 p.m. and Toledo on Sunday at 2 p.m.
