CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its baseball weekly awards on Monday with Western Michigan baseball's senior LHP
Brandon Petersen being named MAC Pitcher of the Week.
Petersen in his first career start and just the second appearance of the season the lefty threw a career-high seven innings allowing just one hit and striking out a career-high 12 batters in a 10-0 victory over Akron.
The senior LHP became the first Bronco pitcher to throw a complete game since May 17, 2019 and clinched WMU's first shutout since winning 12-0 last season at Alabama A&M.
Petersen walked the first batter of the game and then proceeded to retire the next 16 Akron batters. The Naperville, Ill., native gave up his lone hit in the top of the sixth inning on a softly hit line drive to left field with two outs.
This season Petersen has a 1-0 record with a 2.16 ERA for the Broncos. Petersen in 8.1 innings has allowed just two hits and two earned runs while striking out 14. Opponents against Petersen are hitting just .083 as the senior lefty has allowed just one extra-base hit this season.
