Sormain Wins 1,500 as WMU Wraps Up the Al Owens Classic

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Senior Juliane Sormain won the 1,500-meter run as the Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up the Al Owens Classic at Grand Valley State on Saturday.
 
Sormain ran a new personal-best time of 4:30.83 to claim her second event win of the season. Teammate and fellow senior Rebecca McNamee finished right behind her in second place and also running a personal-best time of 4:31.29. Ashley Shipps also competed in the event, running a time of 5:04.20. McNamee also went on to take second in the 800-meter run after finishing with a time of 2:14.93.
 
Sophomore Kailyn Mince also had a second place finish on the day after running a personal-best time of 12:11.32 in the 3,00-meter steeplechase.
 
Western Michigan heads to Hillsdale College next week for the 54th running of the Hillsdale College GINA Relays beginning on Thursday.
