KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team took a brief break from Mid-American Conference play, earning a 4-1 win over Omaha at WMU's Sorensen Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos improved to 20-1 overall on the season and remain a perfect 16-0 at home. Prior to the match, WMU honored its senior class of
Zac Faveri and
Jannik Opitz.
WMU earned the doubles point after wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Jack Randall and
Fynn Lohse defeated Hugo Piles Ballester and Davis Lawley at No. 2, 6-3 and
Peter Kuszynski and
Arjun Honnappa won at No. 3 over Yaswanth Mylavarapu and Ethan Henry, 6-3.
Faveri pushed WMU's lead to 2-0 after a win at No. 6 over Henry, 6-1, 6-1. UNO's Matt Hulme beat Opitz 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 to cut the lead to 2-1. Freshman
Benjamin George and Kuszynski finished off the match with wins within minutes of each other. George won against Lawley at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2 just before Kuszysnki defeated Abdoul Ouattara at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3. The remaining matches went unfinished with Lohse and
Brogan Pierce both up a set over their opponents.
WMU returns to Sorensen Courts on Sunday at 2 p.m. to host Toledo.
