Men's Soccer Heads to WVU for Wednesday Clash

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team heads back out on the road to take on West Virginia on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The game can be seen live on ESPN+.

Wednesday's game was originally scheduled for Sunday, April 4, but was rescheduled due to COVID issues within Akron's program, resulting in the Mid-American Conference to shuffle games.

The Broncos (4-2-0, 2-2-0 MAC) head on the road after an impressive 3-1 win over Northern Illinois last Sunday. WMU got goals from Brendan Skinner and Daniel Nimick in the first half. NIU struck back with a goal in the 80th minute in the second half but Dylan Sing netted his team-leading third goal of the season to seal the win.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
The two teams met back on March 14 with the Broncos earning  1-0 win at the WMU Soccer Complex. Since then, West Virginia (has gone 2-1-0 with wins over SIU Edwardsville and No. 8 Marshall. WVU has also had games against Bowling Green and Akron postponed due to COVID-19 issues in the BGSU and UA programs.

Bjarne Thiesen and Tony Pineda lead the team with two goals each, while three others have score done. The Mountaineers have given up just two goals on the season, one in the loss to WMU and one in their loss to BGSU. Steven Tekesky has made 19 saves on the season and earned four shutouts.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
Senior defender and captain Brendan Skinner scored his first collegiate goal in Sunday's win over the Huskies, heading in a goal in the first half. The goal came in his 41st collegiate soccer game. Until then he had just one assist, coming in 2018, and five total shots on goal.

ON THE HORIZON
WMU's next scheduled game is on April 7 against Bowling Green at 3 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex.
