Women's Tennis Travels to Buffalo Before Hosting NIU on Sunday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team heads out on the road to take on Buffalo on Friday at 1 p.m. before hosting Northern Illinois on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Broncos (13-1, 3-1 MAC) split last weekend, winning at Eastern Michigan and falling at home against Ball State. The loss to the Cardinals was WMU's first of the season.

Fans can follow Sunday's action live at wmu.statbroadcast.com. Due to the weather forecast, the Broncos will most likely play indoors at West Hills Athletic Club, where they are 7-0 this season. Spectators must be on the pass list in order to be admitted to the match, no general admission will be admitted at this time. 

SCOUTING THE BULLS
Buffalo heads into the weekend 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference. UB has had four matches canceled this season, including a home match against BSU on March 14. The Bulls are on a two-game skid, dropping matches at Bowling Green and against NIU last weekend.  Senior Gabriella Akopyan leads the team with four wins in singles play. She is 4-1 overall with a 2-1 record at No. 2 and 1-0 at No. 1 and No. 3. Junior Hsin-Yuan Shih is 3-0 on the season, all coming at No. 4. The duo of Akopyan and Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou is 2-3 on the season, with no other combination winning more than one match.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northern Illinois is 8-8 overall on the season and 2-2 in conference play. The Huskies take on Miami on Friday prior to heading to Kalamazoo on Sunday. Freshman Diana Lukyanova leads the team with 13 wins in singles play this season. The Russia native is 13-3 overall and 4-0 in MAC play, with a 12-2 record at No. 3. Senior Mari Potsi and junior Paula Veyhle each have double-digit wins, with Potsi posting an 11-4 overall record all at No. 1. Veyhle has picked up most of her wins at No. 6, going 8-4. Posti and Lara Slisko have been paired up the most, going 4-6 in 10 matches, while Iullia Dmitrieva and Lukyanova are 5-3 on the season.

ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan takes next week off before heading to Toledo on Friday, April 9 for a 1 p.m. match and then returning to Kalamazoo on Sunday, April 11 at 1 p.m.
