KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Ball State, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at Sorensen Courts.
The Broncos (11-1, 3-1 MAC) dropped the doubles point, with Silvia Martinez and Jessica Braun defeated Kristina Tiraspolski and
Karin Hamilton 6-1 at No. 2 to take a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals secured the point with Amy Kaplan and Emma Peeler defeating
Femke Tjon-A-Joe and
Ana Guadiana in a close contest, 7-5.
In singles action, Guadiana was the lone winner for WMU. The freshman defeated Mariya Polishchuck 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-8). Tjona-A-Joe and Hamilton each took their competitors to three sets.
WMU will wrack up the miles next weekend, heading on the road to Buffalo on Friday and then returning home to host Northern Illinois on Sunday at 3 p.m.
