KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team battled Toledo to a 1-1 tie at the WMU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.
After scoreless first period the Broncos (2-1-2) took a 1-0 lead on
Suzuna Shibukawa's third goal of the season. WMU had a corner kick and played it short. Freshman right back
Katie Schumacher crossed the ball to the far left side of the post. The ball bounced on the ground and to the feet of Shibukawa and she fired a low shot that ricocheted off a Rocket defender and into the net in the 57th minute.
Toledo responded with a goal in the 76th minute on a goal by Ellie Pool. Ashton Cassel played the ball into the left side of the box and Pool had a high shot go through the hands of WMU goalie
Maggie Rogers and into the net for her first career goal.
The two teams nearly scored again in the final three minutes of play. Toledo's Anita Mancini fired a shot off the left post with 2:04 to play. WMU's
Bailey Korhorn responded with 1:20 left on a shot from inside the Toledo 18-yard box but the ball also hit the left corner and bounced back out into play.
