KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team improved to 10-0 on the season and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play after defeating Bowling Green, 4-3, at the West Hills Athletic Club on Sunday afternoon.
 
Both of WMU's wins in conference play have been tight ones, with the team also defeating Miami 4-3 on Friday.
 
"This was another gritty performance by this group," said head coach Ryan Tomlinson. "Winning the doubles point is always huge moving into singles and we did a nice job of gaining that momentum today."
 
The Broncos started off with a win in doubles by junior Femke Tjon-A-Joe and freshman Ana Guadiana at No. 1. The duo defeated Marharita-Sophia Tavash and Yulia Kapitanova, 6-1. BGSU tied up doubles at 1-1 with a 6-2 win by Ayuma Sasaki and Ionna Tsadari but sophomore Lindsey Zieglar and junior Kaitlyn Rogosh sealed the point after beating Marta Bettinelli and Selina Karg, 6-3, at No. 3.
 
"Femke and Ana played great at No. 1 doubles today and that set the stage for Lindsey and Kait to clinch it for us," added Tomlinson.
 
Zieglar remained undefeated in singles play, putting the Broncos up 2-0 after a win at No. 2 6-4, 6-1 over Tsadari. BGSU got a point back at No. 5 singles with Karg defeating Rogosh. Guadiana pushed the lead to 3-1 with a win at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2, over Kaptianova and Tjon-A-Joe sealed the victory for the Broncos with a win at No. 1 over Tavash, 6-4, 6-1.
 
"Every match in this league will be tightly contested," said Tomlinson. "We did a nice job today of playing big points really well."
 
The Broncos head to Eastern Michigan on Friday to take on the Eagles at 1 p.m. before welcoming Ball State to Kalamazoo on Sunday at 1 p.m.
