Men's Tennis Opens MAC Play With 5-2 Win at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team started off Mid-American Conference play with a 5-2 road win at Ball State on Friday afternoon.
 
The Broncos improved to 12-1 on the season but the Cardinals became the first team all season to take the doubles point from WMU.
 
Seniors Jannik Opitz and Zac Faveri defeated Thibault De Negri and Parris Simmons 6-2 for the Broncos lone win in doubles.
 
Peter Kuszynski picked up Western Michigan's first win of the day, making quick work at No. 2 singles of Danilio Kovacevic, winning 6-3, 6-4. The reigning MAC Men's Singles Player of the Week Fynn Lohse picked up a win at No. 3 over Chris Adams, 6-1, 6-1. Opitz continued his winning ways at No. 1. He beat De Negri 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 for WMU's third point of the day. Freshman Brogan Pierce clinched the match win for the Broncos after winning against Simmons 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Fellow freshman Jackson Boon also earned a win at No. 4, defeating Sanjin Smith 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2).
 
The Broncos now head to Toledo to take on the Rockets on Sunday at 2 p.m.
