Broncos Down Crusaders, 7-0

VALPARAISO, Ind.  -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season after a 7-0 victory at Valparaiso on Saturday.

The Broncos earned the doubles point after going 2-1 to open the day. Lindsey Zieglar and Kaitlyn Rogosh were the first to finish at No. 3 doubles, defeating Mia Bertino and Demi Jhaveri 6-0. VALPO's Amanda Tabanera and Isbella Schoolcraft defeated the duo of Ana Guadiana and Karin Hamilton 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. The point came down to the battle at No. 1, with Kristina Tiraspoolsky and Femke Tjon-A-Joe taking down the sister pair of Claire and Olivia Czerwonka 6-3.

Zieglar remained undefeated in singles action this season, improving to 3-0 after defeating Claire Czerwonka 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1. Tjon-A-Joe slotted in at No. 2 singlse and picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Olivia Czerwonka. Both Guadiana and Hamilton shook off their losses in doubles and picked up wins in singles. Guadiana defeated Tabanera 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, while Hamilton came back to beat Mia Bertino, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Rogosh also had a come-from-behind win after dropping the first set to Schoolcraft, 2-6, she stormed back and won 6-1, 6-1. Maya Perkucin earned a win over Jhaveri at No. 6, going 6-3, 7-6
(7-5).

"I really thought we came out and played better doubles today versus last weekend," said head coach Ryan Tomlinson. "We had some different combos and won the doubles point again." We took a step forward from that standpoint. I told the team that there aren't many 'Perfect 10's'. We won ugly today and that's good to see as a young team."

"VALPO played good tennis but I'm proud of the way our kids stepped up in the big moments. I loved to see the fight from Kaitlyn and Karin as they lost first sets and then played extremely well to turn those matches around. Great start and we will get back to work preparing for St. Bonaventure."

The Broncos head back on the road and travel to New York to take on St. Bonaventure in a double-header next Saturday.
