KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team improved to 7-0 on the season, taking down Kansas City, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at West Hills Athletic Club.
For the first time this season the Broncos dropped the doubles point. The team of
Femke Tjon-A-Joe and
Ana Guadiana made quick work of Michel Xibilia and Yana Grechkina, 6-1, at No. 1 but it was the only victory WMU got in doubles. Grace Ball and Eva Kresovic defeated
Kristina Tiraspolsky and
Karin Hamilton 7-6 (6-4) and Riddhi Sharma and Thanushree Vale beat
Lindsey Zieglar and Kaitlyn Rogosh 7-5/
Ziegler avenged her doubles loss, playing at No. 1 in singles and beating Grechkina 6-3, 6-1. Guadiana was WMU's second finisher, playing at No. 3 and winning over Vale 6-1, 6-3. Rogosh gave the Broncos a 3-1 lead after finishing at No. 5 with a win against Xibilia 6-4, 6-2. Hamilton clinched the victory for Western Michigan after defeating Grace Ball 6-3, 6-2. WMU closed out the final two points with Tjon-A-Joe winning at No. 2 6-4, 6-3 and
Maya Perkucin defeating Kresovic at No. 6 7-6 (9-7), 7-5.
The Broncos are back in action against Eastern Illinois on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Oakland on Sunday at 1 p.m.
