Women's Tennis Opens Week Hosting Wayne State on Wednesday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis is set to host Wayne State University on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at West Hills Athletic Club and Kansas City on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
The Broncos are off to a perfect 5-0 start this season after last weekend's sweep at St. Bonaventure. Wednesday's match against WSU Is the first match at home since the Broncos opened the delayed season with a double-header against Ferris State back on Jan. 31.
 
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no spectators are allowed at WMU home matches at this time.
 
A COUPLE OF FIRSTS
Both Wednesday and Saturday will serve as program firsts for the Broncos, with it being the first ever matches against Wayne State and Kansas City.
 
WSU is 1-0 on the season. The team played its first match last Thursday, beating Lawrence Tech 4-0.
 
UMKC is still searching for its first win this season. The Roos are 0-2 after losses to Illinois State and, most recently, at Tulsa. Kanas City's battle against ISU was a close one, losing 4-3.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
Wednesday's match against the Warriors kicks off a nine-match home stand that ends with a road match at Eastern Michigan on March 19. The run will wrap up non-conference play and take the Broncos into Mid-American Conference action with the season-opener against Miami on March 12. The Broncos also host Bowling Green on March 14.
 
REMAINING PERFECT
In the first match of the season the Broncos beat Ferris State 6-1. Since then, WMU has not dropped a point to its opponent. Western Michigan defeated FSU in the second match 7-0, won at Valparaiso 7- and then beat St. Bonaventure 7-0 and 4-0.
 
ON THE HORIZON
The Broncos are busy next week, hosting Chicago State on Tuesday, Eastern Illinois on Saturday and Oakland on Sunday.
