Men's Tennis Sweeps Weekly MAC Awards

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Western Michigan men's tennis team swept the Mid-American Conference Weekly honors this week. Seniors Jannik Opitz and Zac Faveri were named the MAC Men's Doubles Team of the Week and Opitz also earned MAC Men's Singles Player of the Week.
 
Opitz and Faveri clinched the doubles point for the Broncos in their 6-1 in over DePaul on Sunday. The duo took down DePaul's No. 1 pair of Vito and Fran Tonejc in a thrilling 7-5 victory to improve to 5-0 as a pair this season.
 
Opitz went on to defeat Vito Tonejc at No. 1, 6-3, 6-1 to improve to 4-0 in singles on the season. The win also pushed him to within six of tying the all-time wins record at Western Michigan.
 
The Broncos are back in action this week with three matches. WMU hosts Chicago State on Thursday at 2 p.m. and Illinois-Chicago on Friday at 5 p.m. Western Michigan then heads on the road for the first time this season, traveling to Notre Dame on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match.
