COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan hockey's Ethen Frank has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Player of the Month for November.
This is the first NCHC Player of the Month for a Bronco since Sheldon Dries earned the honors in February of 2017. The Papillion, Neb., native is the fifth in program history.
Frank scored nine goals during the month of November and also added four assists for 13 points. Two of his goals were game-winners and three came on the power play. The Broncos went 5-3-0 in the month with three of the wins coming against top five teams.
He opened the month with two goals and an assist, including the game-winning goal, in a 4-3 win over No. 4 Minnesota-Duluth. After a pair of assists at Denver he became the first Bronco since 2006 to score four goals in a game with a five-point night on four goals and an assist in a 6-2 win. He closed out the month with three goals in a sweep at St. Lawrence, scoring one in a 8-2 win and two in a 5-1 win. His first goal in the 5-1 win was his 100th career point, becoming the 62nd Bronco to reach the century mark. His nine goals in the month catapulted him to the NCAA lead in goals scored and he's tied for fourth in total points.
Frank's effort wasn't only on the offensive end, as one of the team's top penalty killers he helped the PK unit go 29-for-34 (85.2 percent) in the month.
The Broncos are back in NCHC action this weekend at Miami on Friday and Saturday. Friday's puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m., with Saturday starting at 5:05 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on NCHC.tv and heard live on the Bronco Media Network.
