KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan volleyball team heads back out on the road this weekend for a series at Buffalo. Both Friday and Saturday's matches against the Bulls will be streamed on ESPN3.
LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan snapped its four-match skid with a 3-0 win over Kent State on Saturday afternoon. The Broncos hit .339 as a team for the contest, their second-highest hitting percentage of the season.
Maggie King led the WMU attack with 14 kills on a .448 hitting percentage.
WEST VS EAST
The Broncos are in the midst of a six-match stretch against the MAC East Division. Last weekend, Western Michigan split its home tilts against Ohio and Kent State, bringing its record to 2-2 against East Division foes. After this weekend's two matches against Buffalo, WMU concludes the stretch with a pair at home against Akron next weekend.
SCOUTING THE BULLS
Buffalo started the MAC season with a pair of wins over Miami, but has gone just 2-7 since those two victories over the RedHawks in late September. Milla Malik leads the UB attack with 3.43 kills/set, which ranks fifth in the conference. Courtney Okwara ranks 10th in the MAC in both hitting percentage (.302) and blocks/set (0.92).
ALL-TIME SERIES
Western Michigan has dominated the all-time series against Buffalo, winning 24 of the 28 meetings, including both contests during the 2021 spring season. The Bulls have won the last two against the Broncos in Buffalo, a place Western Michigan hasn't won since Oct. 19, 2013.
SETTING THE TABLE
WMU setter
Logan Case collected 73 more assists in Western Michigan's two matches last weekend to bring her season total to 966, which is second-most in the MAC and sixth-most in the nation. The sophomore is averaging a league-leading 11.36 assists/set this season, which is fourth nationally.
CHASING 2000
Case enters Saturday's match with 1984 assists in her Western Michigan career, meaning she needs just 16 to reach the 2000-mark. The sophomore is looking to become the first Bronco to reach 2000 career assists since Mary Murphy (2015-18) eclipsed the mark during her sophomore campaign, 2016. Murphy went on to become WMU's all-time assist leader with 4501 career helpers.
ON THE HORIZON
The Broncos return to University Arena next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12-13, for their final two home matches of the regular season. Tickets are available
