CANTON, N.Y. -- The seventh-ranked Western Michigan Hockey team won its fourth game in a row after completing the sweep of St. Lawrence on Saturday with a 5-1 win on the road at Appleton Arena.
Ethen Frank had two goals to lead the Broncos (10-4-0), including scoring on the power play to become the 61st player in program history to reach 100 career points. Cole Gallant, Aidan Fulp and Paul Washe also tallied on the night, while Gallant and Fulp added assists for two-point games. Senior forward Drew Worrad had two assists to total six points on the weekend.
Brandon Bussi made 20 saves on the night and held the Saints scoreless on four power plays. Western Michigan finished 3-for-7 with the man advantage and outshot St. Lawrence 30-21 on the night.
Like in Friday night's win, Washe got the Broncos on the board early with his seventh goal of the season and third of the weekend. WMU was on the power play and SLU had just cleared the puck. Fulp chased it down and passed it up to Washe as he entered the offensive zone. Washe fired a shot that went off the crossbar and into the net to make it 1-0. Fulp picked up his first assist of the season on the goal at 3:53.
Western Michigan was once again on the power play when Gallant scored at 8:49. Worrad passed it to down to Ty Glover in front of the net. Glover spun and dished it to Gallant in the slot for the quick one-timer into the net. The goal was Glover's fifth of the season and third on the weekend, giving the Broncos an early 2-0 lead.
Tucker McIntosh got the Saints on the board with a goal with 8.9 seconds left in the first period.
Frank tallied his first of the night on the power play at 3:19 in the second period. Michael Joyaux blocked a clearing attempt by SLU and dished it off to Frank in the left circle. Frank played it back to him before Joyaux returned the puck and Frank ripped a shot into the top-right corner of the net for his 14th goal of the season and 100th career points.
Fulp added his second of the season at 18:34 in the second period, firing in a shot from the left edge of the right circle. Josh Passolt and Jason Polin both picked up assists on the goal, with Polin tallying four points on the weekend.
Frank put the nail in the coffin at 3:48 in the third period, scoring from just in front of the net after being set up by Worrad. Worrad tallied his NCAA-leading 20th assist on the goal, while Gallant tallied his seventh. Frank's 15th goal is also a NCAA-best.
