Volleyball Headed to MAC Championship

Fourth-Seeded Broncos to Face No. 5 Toledo in Sunday's Quarterfinals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The fourth-seeded Western Michigan Volleyball team begins its run for a Mid-American Conference Championship on Sunday, Nov. 21, as it takes on No. 5 Toledo in a quarterfinal contest at 4:30 pm in Muncie, Ind. All five matches throughout the tournament are set to be streamed live on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan closed out its regular season with a four-set defeat at NIU on Wednesday. Julia Marr led the WMU attack with 18 kills, one shy of her career high, her fifth straight match with double-digit kills. The loss locked the Broncos in as the four seed for the MAC Tournament.

SCOUTING THE ROCKETS
Toledo enters the tournament as the five seed after falling to Ball State in Wednesday's regular season finale. The Rockets are one of the top defensive squads in the MAC, holding opponents to a league-low .167 hitting percentage. Three Rockets rank in the top-8 of the conference in blocks/set, and the team's 2.44/set is second-most in the league.

ALL-TIME SERIES
Western Michigan heads into Sunday's contest with a 58-16 advantage in the all-time series against Toledo. The Broncos and Rockets split the two regular season meetings in Toledo on Oct. 15-16, with WMU rallying from a 2-0 deficit to win a five-set thriller, and UT bouncing back the next day to top Western Michigan in four sets.

MUNSON'S MILESTONE
With Western Michigan's win over Akron last Saturday, Colleen Munson picked up her 331st victory as the head coach of the Broncos, tying her with Rob Buck for the most wins in program history. Munson is 331-206 in her 17 seasons at WMU.

WMU AT THE MAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Broncos have enjoyed a lot of success over the years at the MAC Championship, compiling an overall record of 39-27 and capturing six tournament titles, the most recent coming in 2014. WMU is 2-1 against Toledo in MAC Tournament play.

CASE, KING EARN MAC HONORS
Logan Case was named the MAC Setter of the Year for the second straight season and was joined by Maggie King on the All-MAC First Team, the league office announced on Saturday. Case led the MAC in assists/set at 11.65 (11.90 in league play) and enters the weekend fourth nationally in assists/set. King was a First Team honoree for the second straight season as well. The junior topped the Broncos and ranked third in the MAC at 3.76 kills/set (3.80 in league play) during the regular season.
