Bronco Softball Inks Six in 2022 Recruiting Class

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan softball and head coach Kathy Leitke happily announce the signing of six new Broncos to the recruiting class of 2022. The signing class includes a variety of positions and features three players residing in Michigan, as well as three players from the state of Indiana.

The Broncos welcome catcher Briana Bumbalough to Kalamazoo. Bumbalough comes to us from Macomb, Mich. and Dakota High School, where she leads her squad as team captain. She also played for Finesse National Dreher/Lesko. Thus far, Briana has a career average of .442 and holds an on-base percentage of .479. Additionally, she has earned All-Macomb County, All-District, All-Regional, and All-State recognition.

Western Michigan also welcomes infielder Riley Chumbley, who joins the team from Floyds Knob, Ind. and Floyd Central High School. Chumbley also played for Fusion Elite National Unruh/Greenwood. Throughout her high school career thus far, Riley has posted a .346 batting average and an on-base percentage of .500, which leads her team. She also ranks first on the team in RBI's. Additionally, Riley has earned all-area honors and is a member of the All-GPA team.

Bella Gerlach has signed on to be a Bronco next season as well, and joins Western Michigan as a utility player from Corydon Central High School in Corydon, Ind. Gerlach was also teammates with Chumbley on Fusion Elite National Unruh/Greenwood. In high school, Bella posts a career batting average of .544 and a slugging percentage of 1.170, while also mashing 59 career homeruns. Gerlach has earned an Extra Innings National Softball rating of 133 for her class, and is also team MVP as well as academic all-state.

Next up for the Broncos is outfielder and left-hand pitcher Caitlyn Mullins, who comes to campus from Walled Lake Northern High School in Commerce Township, Mich. Mullins was also a member of Turnin2 Smigiel. Throughout her high school career, Caitlyn has a batting average .400, also earning all-conference, all-district, and all-region honors, with additional recognition as LVC Scholar Athlete and a member of the academic all-region team.

Western Michigan welcomes a second utility player to the diamond next season in Carsyn Segorski, who joins the team from Escanaba High School in Escanaba, Mich. Segorski was also a member for Finesse National. In high school, Carsyn holds a batting average of .430 and a slugging percentage of .910. During the 30 games of her junior season, Segorski launched 10 home runs and earned 39 RBI's. She also crossed home plate 40 times, and recorded 20 walks as well as 20 stolen bases. Furthermore, Segorski is a 2019 state champion and team captain, while also earning all-district, all-region, and all-state honors. She was also a member of the academic all-state team.

Wrapping up the Bronco signees is outfield Jessica Young, who joins the team from Bloomington South High School in Bloomington, Ind. She was also a member of Indy Crush Premier. Throughout her high school career, Young has a batting average of .507 while hitting 23 triples, 20 doubles, and launching a comined 27 homers in her junior and travel season this past year. Jessica is also academic all-state and was named high school MVP while earning the Golden Glove award.
