KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's soccer team (2-4-4) faces another non-conference opponent this week, this time hosting Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies (3-4-2) enter campus on Wednesday for a matchup with the Broncos. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
WHERE TO WATCH
Wednesday's contest at the WMU Soccer Complex against Oakland can be found on ESPN3.
SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES
Oakland sets their sights on WMU after falling on the road last week at DePaul. In the 3-1 loss, Oakland received its only goal from redshirt senior midfielder and team captain Noah Jensen. Jensen's goal came off an assist from fellow team captain Adam McAleenan, which was the junior defender's first assist of the season.
Redshirt senior midfielder Dylan Borczak added six shots to the Golden Grizzlie's efforts, with three of the six landing on goal. The game was knotted at 1 until the 85th minute, where DePaul sent one to the back of the net, and added a third goal just two minutes later to solidify their victory.
LOOKING FOR A SPARK
The Broncos enter Wednesday's battle against Oakland coming off three ties and two losses in their last five games. WMU looks to use the opportunity against the Golden Grizzlies to get themselves back on track with a win.
With their last contest ending in a 3-0 loss to Northern Illinois, Wednesday serves as an excellent opportunity for the Broncos to get back on track. In Saturday's loss to the Huskies, the Broncos attempted 10 total shots, with two landing on goal.
Junior midfielder
Max Keenan lead the charge for WMU, tallying three shots for his team. Senior forward
Eric Conerty and junior midfielder
Charlie Sharp added two shots to their team's cause as well, with one of Sharp's attempts landing on goal.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper
Isaac Walker added seven saves for Western as well.
ON THE HORIZON
Following the battle with Oakland, WMU will host Michigan State on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the WMU Soccer Complex. Kick-off on the 13th is scheduled for 4 p.m.
