KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team heads to Grand Valley State University for the Mike Lints Alumni Open on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos will compete along side the host Lakers, along with athletes from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Hope College, Miami, Northwood, and Northern Illinois.
The field evens kick things of beginning at 1 p.m. The Broncos will have seniors Aniya Davis and Taylor Eaton, along with junior Madison Ochs in the weight throw. Ochs will also compete in the shot put.
The running events begin at 2 p.m. with the 60-meter hurdles and the 60-meter dash prelims. Freshmen Ahvon Mitchell and Sarinity Bracey will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, with Bracey also running in the 60 dash. Juniors Courtney Allen and Kailyn Mince along with sophomore Annalise James are running in the mile run.
Sohomore Claira Gilchrist will be WMU's lone competitor in the 400-meter dash, while Mitchell and both Trinity and Sarinity Bracey will run in the 200-meter dash. Western Michigan's deepest field will be in the 800-meter run. Allen, James, Ashley Shipps and Emma Pachay will compete in the event.
Freshoff winning both the 800 and the mile last Saturday at Central Michigan, senior Rebecca McNamee will go up in distance and race in the 3,000-meter run along with teammates Charlotte Ramser and Brooke Soper.
Western Michigan takes next week off before heading to the University of Akron for the 17th Annual Akron Invitational. The meet will give the Broncos a chance to compete at the site of the 2021 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships, which take place on Feb. 26-27.
