KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team and head coach Ryan Tomlinson have announced the team captains for the 2020-21 season, with juniors Taylor Smith and Elizabeth Trupp sharing the duties.
Smith went 4-0 in doubles action last season, while going 3-4 in singles before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Trupp went 8-4 in singles action and 3-5 in doubles, all during fall competition.
"I am excited to announce Taylor and Elizabeth have been chosen by their team as captains for the 2020-21 season," said Tomlinson. "These two are great representatives of our program and our university. They serve on the Student Athlete Advisory Council board as well. Taylor and Elizabeth have the respect and trust of their teammates, team staff and coaches. I have extreme confidence in both of them to be successful leaders on and off the court for us."
Both were selected as Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar Athletes and helped the team receive honorable mention for the ITA's Regional Community Service Award.
