CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced on Wednesday that a league-high and program record five Western Michigan men's basketball student-athletes have been named to the Academic All-MAC team.

It's the first time in program history Western Michigan men's basketball has placed five on the Academic All-MAC team as seniors Jared Printy and Adida Ikongshul along with
sophomores William Boyer-Richard, Patrick Emilien and Jason Whitens earned the academic honor.

Printy earns Academic All-MAC honors for the third year in a row after posting a 3.77 grade point average in sports management. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native played in all 32 games during his senior campaign and had three games scoring in double figures. Printy ends his career in the Brown & Gold having played in 108 games, making 18 starts and knocking down 85 three-pointers.

For the third year in a row senior Adida Ikongshul earned Academic All-MAC honors, recording a 3.51 GPA in Management. Ikongshul earned his bachelor's degree in December and is already working towards his master's degree at WMU. Ikongshul played in 82 games for the Brown & Gold during his career and this past season scored a
season-high 10 points versus Alma College.

Printy and Ikongshul become just the ninth and tenth players in program history to be named Academic All-MAC three times.

Sophomore William Boyer-Richard earned Academic All-MAC honors after registering a 3.81 GPA in finance. Boyer-Richard played in 27 games during the 2019-20 campaign and averaged 2.6 points per contest. Boyer-Richard registered a season-high 15 points on Feb. 1 against Central Michigan.

Fellow sophomore Patrick Emilien was named to the Academic All-MAC team after earning a 3.68 GPA in business. Emilien on the court played in 30 games and scored at least one point in 16 of the 30 games. The Toronto, Canada native notched a season-high nine points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field at Toledo on Jan. 11.

Redshirt sophomore Jason Whitens earned Academic All-MAC honors after posting a 3.35 GPA in sales & business marketing. Returning from injury Whitens played in all 32 games last season and starting 29. Whitens ranked second on the team at 4.3 rebounds per game and ranked third on the team with 42 offensive rebounds.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
