Three-Point Barrage Lifts Broncos to First Win of Fennell Era

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team made 17 three-pointers on its way to a 99-52 victory over Kalamazoo College in its Home Opener on Thursday evening at University Arena.

The 17 made three-pointers for the Broncos (1-1) were one shy of the single-game program record of 18 which was set back in December of 2023. The 17 makes came from 10 different players on a single-game record 43 attempts.

Of the 13 players who saw the floor for Western Michigan, 12 of them scored, including five in double-figures. Mason Bendinger led the way with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Also in double-figures for the Brown and Gold were Jordan Sigmon (15), Augustinas Kiudulas (11), Rob Lee Jr. (11) and Ramere Draper (10).

WMU was dominant on the glass, owning a 63-30 advantage, which included 21 offensive rebounds. Again Western Michigan got contributions from up and down the lineup, with 12 of the players who saw the floor collecting at least one rebound, and Janis Jünemann securing a team-high 11.

The Broncos scored the first basket of the night just 17 seconds in and never looked back, leading from wire-to-wire. WMU tallied 10 of the first 12 points of the evening and then used an eight-point burst to extend the margin to 23-10 near the halfway mark of the opening period. At 34-19, the Brown and Gold ran off the final 11 points of the half to take a 45-19 advantage into the locker room, keeping the Hornets off of the scoreboard for the final six-plus minutes.

With the margin sitting at 57-29, Western Michigan ran off another 10 consecutive points, including six from Harakow, to increase the cushion to 67-29. WMU's largest lead of the night came in the final minute of the contest, as Draper laid one in to cap a 12-0 game-ending run.

The Brown and Gold shot 48.6 percent (35-of-72) for the evening, while limiting Kalamazoo College to 25.8 percent (16-of-62) from the field.

Western Michigan continues its homestand on Sunday afternoon as it welcomes Campbell to University Arena for a 2 pm tip. For tickets to any WMU men's basketball home game, visit wmubroncos.com/tickets.
