AKRON, Ohio – Western Michigan track and field's Erin Dowd, Tauja Foreman and Juliane Sormain all advanced to the finals in their events as the Broncos wrapped up the first day of the 2020 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships at the University of Arkon's Stiles Field House on Friday.
Dowd continued to stay hot during the indoor season and ran a personal-best for the third time in the 400-meter dash. This time the senior ran a time of 54.08 to run the second-fastest qualifying time in the event to move on to Saturday.
Foreman wrapped up the last qualifying spot in the 60-meter hurdles after running a time of 8.88 seconds. The junior edged out Kent State's Benja Duff, who ran in the second heat, by .01 seconds. Western Michigan nearly qualified two runners in the event but sophomore Taylor Rucker fell just shy with a time of 8.91.
Sormain also took the last qualifying spot in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.29, comfortable edging out Akron's Makenna Heimlich by over a second.
