ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up competition at day one of the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Friday night with seven different Broncos recording new personal-bests.
Senior Brittney Hall ran a new personal-best time of 17:43.05 in the 5,000-meter run and was joined by teammate Olivia VandePol, who turned in a new career mark of 18:43.54. VandePol shaved 27 seconds off of her previous best, while Hall knocked off 15 seconds. Freshman Annalise James finished off a stellar day for the distance runners with a new PR in the mile of 5:04.68, a new best by three seconds.
Senior Erin Dowd continued her strong indoor season, taking third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.53 seconds. It's the second straight meet in which she has had a new personal-best in the event. Senior Jasmine McLemore also set a new best in the event after running a time of 58.08 seconds.
Junior thrower Taylor Eaton had a big personal-best in the weight throw. She took third overall with a distance of 56-0.50 (17.08m). Sophomore Madison Ochs also had a personal best on the day. The thrower took second overall in the shot put after reaching a distance of 45-10 (13.97m).
Junior Tiere Richardson had a season-best performance in the triple jump, reaching a distance of 36-4.75 (11.09m) and hitting her stride just two weeks before the Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships.
The Broncos are back in action again on Saturday, continuing competition at the GVSU Big Meet.
