Hugh McGing Named Finalist for Senior CLASS Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Western Michigan senior captain has been named a finalist for the 2019-20 Men's Ice Hockey Senior CLASS Award.
McGing is one of 10 candidates that were whittled down from the original list of 20 that was announced in January.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of candidates announced last month. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through March 30. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipients will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Men's Frozen Four®.

The Chicago, Ill., native leads the Broncos in scoring this season with 27 points on seven goals and a team-high 20 assists. He recently reached the 100-point milestone in his career and has now amassed 109 points in 139 career games. He is a three-time NCHC Academic All-Conference Selection and is majoring in biology with a 3.22 GPA.

McGing, a St. Louis Blues draft pick, was a Second Team All-NCHC selection last season after recording 30 points on 16 goals and 14 assists. He was an assistant captain on the team last season before taking over the role for his senior season. As the captain he leads the team both on and off the ice, including this summer when the team helped out Kalamazoo Habitat for Humanity to clear out properties for construction of new homes for the less fortunate in the community.

McGing is the lone representative from the NCHC on the list this season.
